Sunday (5/4/2014)  6:01 p.m.

Report of person who had fallen approximately 70 feet at Corona Arch. Grand County Sheriff, Search and Rescue, EMS, DPS Helicopter and St. Mary’s Careflight responded.

A 25 year old male from New York had climbed the arch to rope swing with a group. The accident is believed to have been caused by the victim attaching the swing rope to a caribeener below the one being used for the rope swing causing him to have too much length on the swing rope causing an impact with the ground. The victim was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries in the accident. The victim was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. The response to this accident was very swift as the helicopters used in this incident had just finished with the rescue of the climber on Castle Tower.
